Rolly Polly Fish Heads

I grew up thinking fish was disgusting.

Oh wait, I still do...

That is, I don't like anyone else's fish except Jeremy's. He is, along with being the Bird King, the King of Cooked Fish.

This morning, at the crack of dawn, Jeremy rolled out of bed, and went to Maple Lake to fish with his buddy Mike.

As I pumped some iron (small iron), Jeremy came home and began to disassemble the fish. When I came into the kitchen, the grimace on his face said enough. On his half of the sink was a decapitated fish, oozing profusely. On the other half was this:

"Awww..." I said, feeling a little sad for the ickthyoid. Trout are pretty cute...

Jeremy's face darkened.

"Did you just say 'Awww'?"

"Yes...."

"Well, would you stop, I already feel bad."

After giving it some thought, I picked up the camera and came back to the sink. The heads were gone.

"What are you doing?" Jeremy asked, throwing me a quizzical look.

"I wanted to take a picture for my blog," I slumped, barely hiding my disappointment.

He then dragged the fish heads out of the trash so I could snap a quick pic. Hee hee!

They weren't very photogenic though...

"Could you hold the head up? Ya know, so that I can get a better view?"

Jeremy then picked up the slimy head and tried to open its mouth. Maybe he was trying to make it smile...?

"ICK! What are you doing?? Don't open its mouth!!"

"Ouch! It has sharp teeth..."

And that's as photogenic as a fish head with entrails hanging out can be...

Later, as I was feeding the Lily, Eva came up and started this conversation:

"The fishie has blood."

"Yes..."

"It has blood, all the fishies have blood."

"Yes, that is true."

She stopped to think.

"Then we eat them, and cook them up, and eat them with our mouths."

She illustrated this by opening her mouth wide and waggling her tongue.

"Blood, fishies..." she mused, and then, as if she couldn't stop herself, she urgently ran down the hallway.

She came back 15 seconds later with a toy that she said was dancing, and she smashed it several time on the baby gate.

Nice.

I also recently explained the natural law of eat or be eaten to Audrey. This time it was lions eating an Ostrich. Audrey was quite sad about it.

You better go and tell Jeremy to read Approaching Zion by Hugh Nibley. There is a chapter meant exclusively for animal killers!!

I liked fish until I saw that picture! And ya know what? I totally did NOT know that fish had red blood. I never really thought about it, but I guess I asumed it was more clearish??? Wow. Learned something new!

I'm always asking Tyler to redo things in order to get it on this blog. Husbands are so great to comply... for the blogs sake.
Hope the fish was super yummy!!
