Baby, It's Cold Outside!

I remember Christmas in California...it only lasted 2 weeks. And really, winter in California is more like a moody autumn.

I don't know what possessed Mom and Dad to move to this frozen wasteland, but here we are, and here we will probably stay....F O R E V E R....

Like most people, we have a utilities budget. And like most people, we really don't follow our budget, but that's another blog for another day. Needless to say (but I am going to say it anyway) we have money to spend on heat.

So, in the winter, since I naturally don't like being an icecube, I crank up that heater every time I walk by it. And without fail, Jeremy (who thinks he is an Eskimo....two years in Minnesota fried, or, excuse me, froze his brain.), follows behind me and turns it down.

I was sitting at this very computer this morning, and I was trying to figure out why it was so blasted cold. I turned the heater up to 74 last night (Like I said, I don't like being cold. Poo poo on turning down the heater to 63 at night...). I walked over to our archaic thermostat and LO! Jeremy had turned it down to 51 (well, it was actually 69).

I turned it back up.

I called him up.

He should know better.

"HEY!" I exclaimed. "You trying to freeze us out or something???"

"What?!" He protested. "You had it up to like 88 degrees."

"Well, we are all turning into popsicles over here! We budget for this kind of thing!"

He thought for a moment.

"Oh, are the kids cold or something?"

"Doy!" Yeah, I am really mature. "They are all wrapped up in blankets on the couch."

I walked into the living room to verify my statement, and both kids were naked and had passed out from the heat. Well, it wasn't that bad...Eva had her stomach exposed and had taken a sock off.

Jeremy then graciously conceded that since we do have a budget for gas and electricity, that my penchant for heat was permissible.

I have often told people that I would rather die from heat than from cold. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

That's funny! I am always turning the heater off. I am always hot.

It was 38 degrees this morning when I drove into work.

I won't turn the heater on in the house until it hits about 64 degrees inside.

Welcome to my world! Even when I am pregnant I have to have the heater turned up to at least 72. I always wonder why we decided to move to Idaho where the ground is frozen for at least 20% of the year.

I would melt in anything over 70.

I would freeze in anything under 67.
Yeah, My husband and I do the same exact thing. But we don't have a thermometer or whatever they're called. We have those stupid radiator things on the baseboards. And believe me they do not help.

I remember going to "park day" over in Thousand Oaks in January. The sun was shining. The sky was blue. The temperature was in the 70s. "Ahhh!--This is why we live here," I said. "Winter" arrived the following month. It actually snowed in February in Simi Valley. The snow was "used up" or melted before the day was over. Spring returned two weeks later.

Just for the record, we moved to this frozen paradise because no other state would have us.
