Work of Art

Years ago, I, having seriously misjudged the consequences of eating a large quantity of chocolate, had a serious breakout. Well, it wasn't that serious, but my vanity prevailed on Mom, and she carted me over to the local witch doctor. He proceeded to give me the strongest drugs he could find (meaning Accutane) and I suddenly had beautiful skin. Unfortunately, because it was a chocolate problem, the Accutane proved a little too strong for my annoyingly sensitive skin (Seriously, I snagged my arm on a nail, I didn't bleed, and I still have the nasty scar. What's up with that?). If you have considered taking Accutane DON'T. Treasure your liver...(no that isn't Texas, it's a plush liver.)

Anyway, after about six months of taking Accutane, I stopped because of the havoc it was wreaking across my face. Sadly, I am still dealing with the side effects of taking it, and that was, dang, almost 7 years ago (By the way, I've tried Proactiv too. DON'T USE THIS PRODUCT. It will cause you more problems in the future--dries you out, then makes you breakout. It took weeks for my face to recover from that expensive mistake. And don't exfoliate with anything that has nuts in it, like St. Ives apricot scrub. It just scratches your face. Bad bad bad...).

It used to really bother me that I had scars on my face, but it doesn't so much anymore. Perhaps it's because I am becoming comfortable in my skin, or perhaps it's because Jeremy tells me everyday that I am beautiful (and chases me around the house attempting to show me how beautiful I am to him), or perhaps it's the undying hope that someday it will all just disappear if I will it to...Whatever it is, it usually doesn't bother me. Besides, I figure if I just stare bug-eyed at people, they won't notice anything else about my face. Ha ha ha!

Well, I found this blog that I LOVE! I just want to carry her around in my pocket (I am really into make-up, and her blog is right up my alley)! Anyway, Kandee, on one of her entries, mentions a product that she carries around to her shoots in her make-up kit called DermaBlend. It caught my attention because she said it covered scars. My brain immediately started churning with the possibilities...

I quickly found out where I could get some, and ran and got it yesterday. I was SO excited! I brought it home, washed my face, and read the instructions....PERFECT SKIN, HERE I COME! My very own skin spackle! Yay!

I opened the bottle, dug some of the product out with the provided spatula (See?? It IS spackle!) and did what they said. I was vastly disappointed. It was just really, really thick make-up. Jeremy shot me a concerned look and said shyly, "It's not you...you look painted." I had to agree. Eeya. I was afraid it wouldn't come off. The only thing that seemed to dissolve it was my saliva, and I really didn't feel like licking my entire face.

The whole experience made me think of that scene from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. This little girl walks up to Azeem and asks, "Did God paint you?" Looking startled he replies, "Did God paint me?" He then laughs and says, "For certain." The little girl continues: "Why?" Azeem kindly smiles and replies, "Because Allah loves wondrous varieties."

I think God made me, oily/hypersensitive skinned and all, because he loves variety. And while this particular work of art that I am may sometimes resemble The Scream more than Pinkie, that's okay. They say that oily skin ages slower... :)

Oily skin DOES age slower.. :)
Perhaps one day when Jeremy is making boat-loads of money, you can go and get your scars lazered. :)

You make me laugh ...

and thanks for the warning to stay away from the spackle.

You look like "Pinkie" to me! (Except for the wondrous blue eyes.) People who notice your scars are superficial like your scars. Ignore them. :)

I do not think that anyone who knows you is even aware of the scarring. I think that the first time that I met Neal A. Mazwell I noticed his scars, but when he began to talk, none of them ever mattered again.

Thanks everyone, but I really don't mind my scars. Really! But thanks for the undying support! By the way, I found this product that rejuvenates your skin by Neutrogena. In case anybody wants luminous and youthful skin, I will give you more details!
Hey, my brother loves proactiv!
