Childhood Memories

You should run through childhood,

or skip. But don't walk.

Pockets hold wonders,

Fingers, covered with chalk.

Never blemished with troubles

Or marred by fear

Each little hand

Holds security near.

There's no greater wonder

Than a boost to the sky

No mountain is taller

Than Daddy is high

Faces look up in wonder

At the giant they see.

"He's two times, no three times,

Four times taller than me!"

Puddles to jump in

Balls to bounce and throw

Frisbees to toss

Inches to grow.

Clinging to knees,

Making movement seem slow.

But, at length it will come:

That day they let go...

Childhood memories,

Finger painted by them,

drift in on the breeze

that we breathe now and then.

How gentle and tender. Remembering childhood and being able to see things through your children's eyes is a priceless gift.
