Twist, Bend, Breathe, and End
Every other day of the week, I lift weights. I have been doing that since October, and the other day, as Jeremy and I were sitting on the couch, he squeezed my arm, looked surprised and said,
"WOW! Your arms aren't floppy any more!"
"HEY!"
"No, I mean they were like..."
*Flap flap flap with his hands*
"That!"
"You just noticed this?"
Anyway...
On the off days, I do something soothing and low stress like yoga or pilates.
So, this morning I whipped out my yoga mat and prepared myself for Rodney Yee's Power Yoga For Flexibility--for beginners. (By the way, I think Mr. Yee's meaning of "beginner" is "Yoga Lord Who has Mastered the Art of Twisting His Body in Such a Way That Makes a Pretzel Cry.")
Let's begin...
Upward dog, downward dog, mountain position...Cobra position, upward dog, downward dog, upward dog, downward dog...pigeon position, cobbler's pose, upward dog, downward dog, upward dog, downward dog...staff pose, seated forward bend, upward dog, downward dog, upward dog, downward dog, upward dog, downward dog...
At this point I was so sea sick, I was excited for the death pose at the end.Joshua and Eva were playing in their room, and I was surprised they hadn't come out to see what was going on. Usually when I get my mat out, they both want to sit on it and "excise," as Joshua puts it.
As I lay there with my eyes closed, "feeling the waves of my breath," there came a "boop! boop!" from my son, and I tried to concentrate...relax....breath in...sniff...sniff! OOOF!
Eva had "made a deposit," walked by, and then plopped herself on my tummy. I opened my eyes, and she had the biggest grin on her face.
"Okay, little girl. Time to get off."
"Okay, little girl. Time to get off."
Relax...ahh...namaste...
It always surprises me how relaxed I feel after doing yoga. All those Yoga Lords must know what they are doing. Maybe being upside down pools enough blood in your brain that you think you are relaxed, when in reality you have had a mild stroke, so you are really suffering from minor paralysis...?
Well, to all my readers out there, namaste--"I salute the God within you."
Comments
I am still relaxed and have complete quite a bit of work.
I am finding time to read everyone's blogs during my 30 minute lunch...
by the way... have you started any illustrations?
P.S. Privileges include time on pbskids, juice at dinner, play a game with mom or dad, earning toys that he has lost for being disobedient, choosing a treat out of the candy bucket, chocolate milk. etc.
I prefer the Yoga for weight loss that I have. Very relaxing and moderately difficult. The stretching kills my legs.
I've given up Yoga for the duration of my pregnancy since I can't do many of the positions anymore. I'll pick it back up when I recoup... IF I recoup.
