Humptey Dumptey

This morning at 6:30, my slumber was disturbed by the anguished crying of Joshua. It isn't normal for this to happen. Usually, when he wakes up that early, he is laughing, or trying to sneak around the house. So, naturally I was alarmed. I rushed into Joshua and Eva's bedroom, and Joshua was prostrate on the floor holding an electronic "educational" bear I had bought Eva for her birthday. Even in the dark, I could see that something was very wrong with his face.
You really can't see it in the picture, but his face is really swollen. :(
When I asked him what happened, he said his bed had broken his face. It took me all morning, but I think I figured out what happened.
Joshua is my little climber and jumper. His favorite thing to do is launch himself onto the couch and then "fall" over the back of it. He has gotten quite good at it, and is rather graceful. His other favorite thing to do is jump from our bed to the couch in our room. Given the chance, he will climb and stand on anything possible, and I have had a difficult time trying to get him to stop!
So, imagine if you will, Joshua, waking up at 6 something in the morning, and he, being the clever fellow he is, remembers that the exciting and oh-so-fun bear is on the dresser next to his bed. He jumps out, grabs the bear, and then thinks, "Hey, why walk to my bed, when I can JUMP to my bed!" He springs into the air and then misses the bed by a foot, smashing and scraping his face on the side of the bed on his way down to the ground...Sigh... When we took Joshua to the emergency room a few years back and were panicking the doctor told us, since we had a boy, to get used to this kind of thing. I don't think you can ever get used to something like that.

Eva observed the whole thing, but refused to tell me what happened. Brother-Sister confidentiality I suppose.

The fall, while it "broke" his face, didn't seem to dampen his spirits after he got out of bed this morning. I think he was rather proud of himself! Battle wounds you know.

Yeeeouch!! The worst things we have encountered thus far with the boys is a skull fracture, a broken finger and stitches. I hope that's the worst of it.

You have to be a mommy to know that when the kids are wounded the mom feels the pain too.
