Say Hello, Wave Goodbye
I just like my drawings.
A few years ago, Mom told me a story about one of her friends, Anita. She said that when they were talking on the phone, and Mom had to go, she would tell Anita, and Anita would reply, "Okay, goodbye," and hang up.
Mom said (if I remember correctly) that it threw her a little every time Anita did that.
No pleasantries, no drawn out sentiments.
Just, "Okay, goodbye," *click*
I liked that.
I frequently am at a loss when it comes to ending a phone conversation. It feels awkward.
"Well, I must be going..."
"Thank you so much for calling!"
"Thank you so much for calling!"
"Oh, you're welcome."
"I'll see you on Sunday!"
"Okay, maybe we could sit together?"
"Sure, I'll have to check with the husband..."
"Okay, maybe we could sit together?"
"Sure, I'll have to check with the husband..."
"Well, let me know..."
"Sure! Well, gotta go..."
"Okay...
"Sure! Well, gotta go..."
"Okay...
"I'll talk to you later."
"Alrighty..."
"Alrighty..."
"...uh...goodbye."
"...bye..."
EEeeee...even now, that gives me jibblies.
At some point, my brain took over and decided to end things Anita Fashion.
I was on the phone with somebody and we chatted, and when our conversation came to a close, she said,
"Okay, well I have to go..."
"Okay, goodbye." *Click*
"Okay, goodbye." *Click*
Before the phone went dead (on my end) the person made some noise, and didn't have a chance to say goodbye.
I think I surprised them.
So, in the future, if I do this to you, don't be offended. Think of it as a little gift.
I'm saving you from an awkward goodbye.
Okay?
Goodbye.
Goodbye.

What bothers me is when the person on one end says, "I have to go" and the person on the other says, "Okay, bye" and the first person just hangs up.
I will never get over how rude that is to me.
I DID get it....
I must be getting SLOW.
:)
Topic of writing .... so true.
I hate ending phone conversations, so I rarely start them.
